As of midnight, I am now officially the Maine Teacher of the Year. Continuing the tradition, Shannon Shanning, Maine Teacher of the year for 2013, called me last night to officially welcome me to the exciting year ahead. As usual, Shannon had kind and supportive words for me along with some great advice. I feel so lucky to have her support as I begin representing the great educators and students of Maine. Thank you, Shannon.
Before receiving "the call" from Shannon, I spent the evening with some good friends. I have an amazing support system that includes my husband, my two children, my close friends, my colleagues at King, and my seventh grade students. During the "surprise assembly" in September, Shannon spoke directly to the students in my classroom this year and told them that I will need their help throughout this process. Honestly, they heard her loud and clear. I know they will keep focused as I begin my official responsibilities, and I look forward to sharing my new learning with everyone. Let the adventures begin!
