Day two of the National Teacher of the Year Program Conference is behind me, and I actually get to join colleagues for dinner tonight in Old Town Scottsdale. New information is coming at us fast and furiously, but it is all important. Scott Palmer spoke to us about what is happening in education policy at the national level. I appreciated all of the great information he shared and realized how much I have to learn. This afternoon we focused on our potential “platform” for the upcoming year and beyond. Personally, I am planning to take it one step at a time and see how the year unfolds, but clearly I have a passion for the power of teacher leadership and hope to make an impact in Maine in this area.
I have had discussions with all of the Teachers of the Year from New England. We have talked about staying connected and supporting one another in the year ahead, since we are so close geographically. My big “take away” from today is that this is a pivotal moment in education, and as teachers we need to find our voice and participate in the conversation and the decision making! And that means all of us!!!
